Who is the course for?

This course is designed to enable progression into the exciting and diverse environment of computing. Work experience will be available with a range of business and computing organisations such as programmers, banks, and estate agents. This will support your development in a range of employable skills such as working with others, communication and interpersonal skills along with developing basic industry skills.

If you are looking for a career in the modern computing world then this course is an excellent choice to help you understand and decide your next steps, whether that is straight into employment or maybe onto further study at a higher level.

You will develop excellent communication skills by working with others, to help you prepare for progression and to work within the computing environments.

Placements/Work Placements

Work placements provide you with an excellent opportunity to experience diverse and exciting business sectors from logistics through to advertising.  Our computing students have opportunities to work in IT departments of large or small businesses.

Work experience will enable you to gain valuable insight into working within the industry and help you to build your knowledge of the sector.

Entry Requirements

You need GCSEs in the D to G or 3 to 1 range or other equivalent qualifications. Entry is subject to a successful interview and induction. If you don’t have a grade C or 4 in English and Maths you will be required to study for this alongside your course.

What are the assessment methods?

This study programme offers a range of assessment methods from practical assessment to written assignments. 

How long is the course?

One year.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

During the course of the year, you will be offered the chance to attend various trips and residentials. You will be advised of when these take place and of any costs will be provided to you well in advance to enable you to plan and prepare. 

What are the progression options?

On successful completion of the course, you will be ideally placed to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Business Studies or Level 2 Extended Certificate in Applied Computing in Creative Technology.

Alternatively, you could choose one of the College’s Apprenticeship programmes or move into full-time employment in the business or computing sectors.
