Who is the course for?
This course is designed to enable progression into the exciting and diverse environments of computing, travel or business. Work experience will be available with a range of travel, business and computing organisations such as programmers, banks, hotels, travel and tourism operators and estate agents. This will support your development in a range of employable skills such as working with others, communication and interpersonal skills along with developing basic industry skills.
If you are looking for a career in the modern business, travel or computing world then this course is an excellent choice to help you understand and decide your next steps, whether that is straight into employment or maybe onto further study of travel, business or computing at a higher level.
What does the course involve?
This is an exciting bespoke course that has been written to develop your learning and personal growth in a nurturing and supportive environment. You will develop excellent communication skills by working with others, to help you prepare for progression and to work within the business, computing and travel environments.
You will have to opportunity to specialise in your chosen pathway and you will be given the opportunity to find out about subjects, including:
- Producing a product of your own and decide how to brand your product to your customers to increase its appeal
- Producing great ideas on how to display travel and tourism products as well as business products, with the opportunity of creating your own visual display
- Researching the different travel and tourism businesses in your local area, what they have to offer, how they operate and stay ahead of their competition
- Installing hardware and software
- Computer systems
- Imaging software

Work placement provide you with an excellent opportunity to experience diverse and exciting business sectors from logistics through to advertising. Students on a business and travel course have worked with advertising agencies in Bristol and London, within the banking sector or the retail sector of John Lewis and Next.
Our computing students have opportunities to work in IT departments of large or small businesses, whilst our travel students have opportunities available at Bristol Airport, Holiday Inn and Thomas Cook and Thomsons Travel Agents to name a few.
Work experience will enable you to gain valuable insight into working within the industry and help you to build your knowledge of both sectors.
You need GCSEs in the D to G or 3 to 1 range or other equivalent qualifications. Entry is subject to a successful interview and induction. If you don’t have a grade C or 4 in English and Maths you will be required to study for this alongside your course.
What are the assessment methods?
This study programme offers a range of assessment methods from practical assessment such as programming, role-plays and presentations to organising a small event. You will also gain experience of working in an actual business environment through your exciting one week work experience placement.
How long is the course?
Are there any additional costs for the course?
During the course of the year you will be offered the chance to attend various trips and residentials. You will be advised of when these take place and of any costs will be provided to you well in advance to enable you to plan and prepare.
What are the progression options?
On successful completion of the course you will be ideally placed to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Business Studies or the Level 2 Diploma in Travel & Tourism or even the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Applied Computing in Creative Technology.
Alternatively you could choose one of the College’s Apprenticeship programmes or move into full-time employment in the business, travel or computing sectors.
