This course is ideal if you wish to further your interest in business. There is an emphasis on employees being work ready, so business skills and qualifications are more important than ever in today’s dynamic modern economy. If you have a passion of business and are an entrepreneur, then this is the course for you
What does the course involve?
This qualification puts emphasis on real world business rather than just being limited to theory. Students will prepare for the workplace by developing marketing and entrepreneurial skills.
The course consists of both mandatory and optional units such as:
- Enterprise in the business world
- Small business planning
- Promoting a brand
- Finance for business
- Principles of customer service
- Introduction to project management
- Visual merchandising
- Principles and marketing
- Business online
What makes this course special?
There are a number of reasons why this course is special. One is the resource provided for you with regards to computers and IT, and the secondly is the staff team who have indusial and commercial experience.
The course also has official recognition from such organisations as University of the West of England, The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Saracens RFU, John Lewis, Barclays Bank and many others.
There are a number of different work placements offered on this course; in the past students have worked with external clients to undertake market research, promote digital campaign and social media marketing and web design. Furthermore the work placement initiative will provide you will valuable experiences and opportunities for you to deploy your knowledge and skills.
You need five GCSEs in the A* to E or 9 to 2 range with English and Maths, or an appropriate Level 1 qualification. Acceptance is subject to a successful interview.
What are the assessment methods?
The majority of subjects are assessed internally through assignments graded at Pass, Merit and Distinction, while some units are externally assessed either through an on-screen exam or external controlled assessment.

The college expects 100% attendance across all areas of the course, whether this is the business lessons, work placement, enrichment or Maths and English.
You are expected to be in College for a minimum of 15 hours a week, although you are not limited to this as the Learning Resource Centre and other areas are open throughout the week for extra study time.
Are there any additional costs for the course?
There are no compulsory additional costs that come with this course, however we recommend you attend all educational study visits and residential including Jaguar Land Rover, Cadbury World, EDF B Station, Warner Bro’s Studio, and Manchester, Milan and New York residential. Educational visits will come at a small cost to each learner through a variety of prices depending on the trip. Residential will be sourced at competitive prices.
If you want to achieve highly in this course you will need to complete coursework and study in your own time and to do this we recommend having a PC/laptop available to you during your evenings/weekends.
What are the progression options?
You could choose to continue your studies at the College and progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business & Creative Marketing or Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business & Entrepreneurship. Alternatively you could start an Apprenticeship and enter the workplace.
Many of our students choose to continue their studies at university after they have finished their course. Several continue at Bridgwater & Taunton College whilst others study elsewhere to fulfil their ambition of working in junior management programmes.
