Who is the course for?

This study programme is designed for school leavers and has been created to enable future progression into the hair and beauty sector, by providing work experience to promote skills in working with others, and developing basic industry skills, with a focus on communication and client care. It will apply to students who have a keen interest in working within the Hair and Beauty industry.

What does the course involve?

This is an exciting bespoke course that has been written to develop your learning and personal growth in a nurturing and supportive environment. You will develop excellent communication skills, working with others in a variety of different locations, to help you prepare for progression and work within the hair and beauty sector.

The study programme may include:

  • Shampoo and conditioning hair
  • Styling ladies and gents hair
  • Hand care
  • Skin care
  • Basic make-up application
  • Nail art
  • Healthy eating & basic nutrition
  • Participation in team sports for health & wellbeing
  • CPD opportunities (additional certificated workshops)
  • Community visits

The Hair and Beauty department is a dedicated facility for the study of hair and beauty and boasts top of the range facilities with four hair and four beauty salons that will give you excellent opportunities and a "taste" of real life industry.
The dedicated staff, excellent facilities, products, tools and equipment that you will have access to will make your learning experience as close to the Hair and Beauty industry as possible.

Working in partnership with Hair and Beauty industry professionals will give you access to the latest industry fashions and trends.

Entry Requirements

  • GCSEs in the D - G or 3 - 1range or other equivalent qualifications
  • Successful interview and induction

What are the assessment methods?

Some of your units will be assessed through practical observation; other elements of the course will be assessed by written assignments. You will also gain experience working in our commercial salons/clinics in an assisting role or through friends and family sessions.

How long is the course?

One year.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

You will be required to purchase a kit, uniform and trip fees, the cost of which will be discussed at interview.

What are the progression options?

It is hoped that you will progress to either the VRQ level 2 in Hairdressing or VRQ level 2 Beauty Therapy, or choose one of our apprenticeship programmes. This will depend on the progress that you make during the study programme.
