Who is the course for?
This course is for people who have a genuine interest in working in the media industry. This exciting new course has been designed to sit alongside an A Level for those people who would like to progress onto Higher Education.
What does the course involve?
This exciting course covers all aspects of Media Make-Up that you would experience when working on theatre productions or on film sets. In what could be your first year, you will focus on media make-up techniques, developing significant skills.
In addition to this programme we have developed a second year of education with a Level 3 UAL Media Make-up Pre-Degree course, this second year enables you to develop your creative approach to texture, 3D casting, video, drawing techniques, special effects and gaining a greater understanding of this diverse industry - often working with industry professionals and further preparing you for progression to our outstanding BA (Hons) Media Make-up course at University Centre Somerset.

- Working with colleagues within the beauty related industries
- Applying Prosthetic pieces and bald caps
- Airbrushing Make-Up
- The Art of Colouring Hair
- Style & Fit a Postiche
- You will have an opportunity to work with the Drama Academy
- Prepare make-up for Forensic students
- Film making with Media Students
- Take part in a Fashion Show
You need five GCSEs in the A* to C or 9 to 4 range, including Maths and English or must have successfully achieved a Level 2 qualification with a merit profile. Entry will also be subject to a successful interview.
What are the assessment methods?You will be assessed through written coursework, practical assessments, examinations and your portfolio.
How long is the course?
This is a one year full time Diploma which can lead to progression to specific and related courses at higher education level through portfolio assessment. It does not carry UCAS points which might be needed for progression to courses in unrelated areas. A minimum 90% attendance is required.
Are there any additional costs for the course?
In addition to the course fees, you will need to pay approximately £408.25 for Media Make-Up Kit & uniform. There will be additional costs for a compulsory trip £75 and visits along with extra-curricular training – this will be discussed at interview.
What are the progression options?
Upon successful completion of the course you can progress onto the Level 3 UAL Media Make-Up pre-degree course, one of our hairdressing or beauty qualifications, the BA (Hons) or FdA in Media Make-up at University Centre Somerset, or find employment in the industry.
