Who is the course for?

This course is for 16-19 year olds with a keen interest in art, design and media from animation and photography to fashion/textiles and fine art. This course will focus on the creative aspects of 2D and 3D design using both traditional and digital methods. The course is a good place to develop a range of skills before choosing to specialise in one of the pathway choices at Level 3 in Art & Design, Commercial Fashion, Graphics/Media/Photography or TV and Film. 

What does the course involve?

The Level 2 Art, Design & Media programme is a practical, exciting and empowering course to study. Students have the opportunity to access a range of visual art media to see where their skills lie before they progress to Level 3.  Units of study may include:

  • Animation
  • Drawing and Paint
  • Photography and Film
  • Fashion & Textiles
  • Contextual Studies
  • Graphic Design
  • 2D skills
  • 3D skills

Alongside these you will study in detail the various creative industries and you will be able to specialise in for your Major Project at the end of the course in a pathway of your choosing.

Placements/Work Placements

Work placements and work readiness are encouraged throughout the course to ensure that you are ready for progression in further courses and the work environment.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSE grades A* - E or 9 - 3 or another appropriate level qualification. Examples of work to strengthen your application, you should bring a portfolio of work with you for your interview.

What are the assessment methods?

Practical and written assignments.  Observation by your tutor.  You will be encouraged to evaluate your own work and the work of others and to set targets for yourself in relation to your work and general progress.

How long is the course?

One year, full time.

What are the College attendance requirements?

Up to 15 hours in College. In addition you will expected to complete tasks and self-managed your study time out side of the timetabled college events.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

There is a course material fee, which, you will be advised about upon applying. There are also costs for optional and compulsory trips and visits.

What are the progression options?

You could progress to Level 3 Diplomas in Art and Design (Fine Art/3D/Fashion & Textiles) TV and Film, Graphics/Media/Photography or a Level 3 Creative Apprenticeship.
