Who is the course for?

Successful completion of the Diploma in year 1 leads to the Extended Diploma in year 2.

This course encourages engagement with the major disciplines in Art & Design, as well as an appreciation of the connections between them.

We want to unleash your creative spirit and provide a chance to specialise in an area that particularly inspires you during your second year of study.

Through engagement with the programme, you will develop a coherent and effective working method, processes and technical skills and problem solving. These skills and qualities are in great demand by employers in the creative industries. They are also a prerequisite for entry into some of UK’s top universities.

Your practical studio-based experience can be enriched through a stimulating programme of visits. Previous years have included visits to New York, Venice, London, Oxford and St Ives, as well as the opportunity to talk with working artists and designers.

Entry Requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grades A* to C or 9 to 4 (Maths and English GCSEs are desirable) or a First Diploma in Art & Design at Merit level or above.
  • You will be invited to an interview and asked to bring some examples of your work.

What are the assessment methods?

Assessment is through practical and written assignments, continuous assessment and external moderation. Your progress is monitored by tutorials and seminars.

How long is the course?

Two years, full time
