Who is the course for?
This course gives an excellent opportunity to discuss the workings of the modern world and relate real events to academic study. It is especially suitable for anyone interested in the way we are governed and who wants to enhance their appreciation of politics at work.
What does the course involve?
Modules on the British political system include:
- People and Politics: this is politics in action—how we interact with the system and the extent to which it is effective
- Governing the UK: in this unit we look at the institutions of government in Britain—how they work in principle and in reality
Modules on the politics of the USA include:
- Representative Processes in the USA: in this unit we look at democracy in action and how it has changed in recent years
- Governing the USA: this unit looks at the organisation of the American system of government and considers how effective these institutions are in fulfilling the hopes of America’s founding fathers
Minimum of five GCSEs A* to C or 9 to 5 is recommended for A Level study, including Maths and English.
Whilst you are not expected to have any previous knowledge, it is desirable to have an interest in current affairs and discussion.
