Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at those students who have an interest in Business and how the real-world around them works. The course is split into two parts. Business tactics and business strategy which is taught in year two.

It is expected that the student will take an interest in business news and activity. The course fits well into an overall mix of humanities subjects as well as a pathway aimed at studying a business related field in university. Many students in the past have also taken up modern apprenticeships in a wide variety of firms and organisations in the area.

What does the course involve?

The course is a mixture of business tactics and strategies covering the four functions of a business. HRM, Marketing, Finance and Operations. It also covers the economic factors that shape how a business operates. The course moves from UK based firms to an understanding of globalisation and multinational corporations.

What makes this course special?

The course is based on business examples over the last three years. It requires every student to be interested in what is happening in the business world every day. Each student is placed in a work team which supports their studies and revision as the course unfolds.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of five GCSEs A* to C or 9 to 5 is recommended for A Level study, including Maths and English.

What are the assessment methods?

Final exams will be set at the end of the two year course. Regular assessment internally will take place as the course unfolds. The finals are made from three exam papers covering the whole course.

How long is the course?

The course is taught over two years full time.

6 hours of teaching per week.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

It is expected that students will purchase revision guides and extra text books and should set aside £30.

Students who have gained this qualification have gone onwards to many of the top universities such as, Oxford/Cambridge, Exeter, Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol and LSE. Many are studying, Law, Finance and various specialised business subjects such as logistics, marketing and PR.
