Who is the course for?

Engineering holds many fantastic and exciting opportunities, in today’s world engineers work in an environment that encompasses the use of cutting edge technologies and innovative solutions, for example you could find yourself designing the next generation of supersonic aircraft. Study Aerospace Engineering and you be on the road to becoming a highly skilled engineer and will be able to work within a variety of aerospace engineering disciplines such as, product design, composites, manufacturing, electrical and electronics, communications or mechanical engineering.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Aerospace Engineering will give you the experience and recognised qualifications to pursue one of these career routes and will appeal to those of you who have a keen interest in Engineering.

You may want to combine this qualification with an A Level in Maths or Physics.

You will study a combination of theory, applied theory and practical subjects across a broad range of aerospace engineering subjects including:

Within our state-of-the-art Engineering Centre students can take full advantage of the fully stocked and dedicated, engineering workshops and laboratories. Equipment includes with the latest Robotic, CAD/CAM, Materials, Pneumatic/Hydraulics, Programmable Logic Control, Electronics and Process Control Technology giving students unrivalled access to the latest industry standard training and education. This course allows students to sample the various aspects of aerospace engineering and enables them to make a reasoned choice for their future career based on their experience across a broad range of engineering subjects.

Students will enjoy wider curriculum activities such as UK and overseas residentials, educational visits to aerospace employers, industry guest speakers, team building activities.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSE grades A* – C (or 9 - 4 ), including Mathematics (Higher) at grade B or above or an appropriate Level 2 qualification with an overall Merit which includes Maths and Science is acceptable.

Two years

What are the College attendance requirements?

Depending on your study programme timetables will vary however typically expect four days per week in College for both direct and private study.

What are the progression options?

The Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A levels and successful completion will provide progression onto University, a wide range of possible careers and Apprenticeships including Higher Apprenticeships.

The college offer a Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering leading on to a BEng or MEng Mechanical Engineering Degree awarded by The University of the West of England delivered here at Bridgwater College.

Former students have progressed onto fantastic aerospace organisations which include; Rolls-Royce Aerospace, AugustaWestland and GKN.
