Who is the course for?

This course is for those who have an interest, passion and desire to work in the fashion industry within commercial roles. The aim of the course is to build your confidence, knowledge, communication skills and develop them within a fashion business context in order to prepare you for progression to further study at University or your first steps into the industry. You may have already worked in the fashion retail sector either full-time or part-time or have completed the Level 2 Fashion Retail. This course is also designed for school leavers with a keen interest to learn how to utilise their creative GCSE skills in a professional and informed way.

What does the course involve?

You will learn all about how the industry works from buying, setting trends to the marketing and promotion of garments and designs. You will gain experience within the areas of business for fashion, creative thinking and application of skills and also the manufacture of retail focused garments.

Topics include;

  • The fashion retail environment
  • Industry and history
  • Planning and developing ranges
  • Designing visual merchandising
  • Garment production
  • Styling
  • Developing marketing campaigns

There will be a mixture of practical, academic and work experience sessions on the course.

Placements/Work Placements

There is a significant work experience element to the course both through designated placement weeks and the running of a live professional fashion show.

Entry Requirements

A Minimum of 5 x GCSEs A* – C or 9 – 4, including Maths, English and ideally to include a creative subject or a relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit standard.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

A materials fee is collected at enrolment and additional costs for residential trips will be publicised, such as our New York trip or visits to London Fashion Week.

What are the progression options?

You can progress onto a University course, Higher Apprenticeship or seek employment confidently after completing this course.
