This Study Programme will provide you with comprehensive technical training needed for today’s professional Engineering industry. Engineering is a fast-moving, exciting industry which incorporates continuing development of technology and systems.  All of this is underpinned by highly qualified Engineers.

The Engineering Technical Baccalaureate Diploma is a fantastic opportunity for you to develop a programme of study which will stand you out from the crowd when entering your next step of education or the first step of your career ladder.

This qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels and has been designed to give students the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to enable you to progress onto an Advanced/Degree Level Apprenticeship or University Level course in order to pursue an exciting career.

What does the course involve?

An Engineering Technical Baccalaureate is a study programme that consists of an Engineering Extended Diploma, an A Level Maths and an Extended Project.

What makes this course special?

The Level 3 Extended Diploma lets you specialise in ether Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical & Manufacturing, Engineering Systems or Aerospace Engineering. Pairing one of the Engineering Level 3 Extended Diploma’s with a tailored A Level in Mathematics and an Extended Project Qualification will stand you out from the 1000s of others taking Engineering Diplomas all over the country.

Within our state-of-the-art Engineering Centre, students take full advantage of the fully stocked and dedicated, engineering workshops and laboratories. Equipment includes with the latest Computer Labs Inc. Robotic, CAD/CAM, Programmable Logic Control, Electronics and Process Control Technology giving students unrivalled access to the latest industry standard training and education. This course allows students to sample the various aspects of computer engineering and our work with employers enables them to make a reasoned choice for their future career.

Students will enjoy wider curriculum activities such as UK and overseas residentials, educational visits to aerospace employers, industry guest speakers and team building activities.

Placements/Work Placements

Work experience placements are an essential element of the study programme. They provide valuable industry experience and future progression opportunities.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSE grades A* – C (or 9 - 4), including Mathematics (Higher) or an appropriate Level 2 qualification with an overall Merit which includes Maths and Science is acceptable.

How long is the course?

2 years

What are the College attendance requirements?

Depending on your study programme timetables will vary however typically expect 3 - 4 days per week in College for both direct and private study.

The College offers a Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering leading on to a BEng or MEng Mechanical Engineering Degree awarded by The University of the West of England delivered here at Bridgwater & Taunton College.
