Higher Education Accommodation
The College has limited accommodation for both weekday catered (meal card) and fully self-catered Higher Education (HE) students at the College’s Cannington Centre. This is allocated on a priority basis, mostly related to distance from home although other factors may be taken into consideration.
The various types of accommodation available through the College are detailed below.
Halls of Residence
Jeanes Hall is a modern purpose-built building offering rooms that are either en-suite or have access to a communal bathroom. All rooms are equipped with a fridge, kettle, study desk and IT and TV points and have easy access to a student common room with a TV and general utilities. The other Lodges available for HE students are fully equipped with full kitchen facilities, communal area with flat screen TV and a communal bathroom. All rooms have a desk area with a lamp for study. Dunkery Lodge is a small bungalow on the College grounds offering the full self-catering experience, with access to a kitchen/dining area.
Accommodation is offered on either a self-catering or catered basis. Students choosing the catered option are provided with a meal card to use in the College restaurants during the week; weekends are self-catered at present. There is an on-site launderette and a large central student common room which hosts regular activities and has a range of facilities such as a pool table, table tennis table and a student Bar. Support for students is provided by the Student Liaison team who are on site, seven days a week.
Overall, there is a wide range of accommodation options, at various price levels. For further information regarding on-campus accommodation, see the Accommodation Fees page where full details on fees and accommodation options can be found. Please note: If you are allocated a place in residence, you will receive notification of the accommodation we have booked for you well before the start of your course.
We can arrange hosted accommodation of a high standard in regularly inspected homes near the College. Home stay typically includes bed, breakfast and evening meal during the week plus laundry facilities. The cost usually covers heating and household bills. Home stay fees should be paid directly to the Student Support Assistant (International). You will also need to pay a returnable deposit and one month’s rent in advance.
The Student Support Office holds details of private houses and flats available for rent by students. These are self-catering facilities where you will pay rent, heating, lighting and other running costs directly to the owner. You should either be given a receipt or the owner should enter your payments in a rent book. You may be asked for a deposit which will be returned to you at the end of your stay, provided all bills have been paid and there has been no damage to the property.
