Somerset County Ticket

Students living in Somerset can apply for the Somerset County ticket, which allows unlimited bus use within the County from 1 September to 31 August. Applications for 2018/2019 are now open and should be made online directly to Somerset County Council. You need to apply before Friday 3 August 2018 to ensure you have your County Ticket for the start of the Autumn term.

You may be able to apply for financial help towards the cost of the ticket through the 16-19 Bursary. Please contact Student Support for an application form on 01278 441233 or email studentsupport@btc.ac.uk

The 16-19 Bursary is assessed on gross household income and is a limited fund, which means early application is advised. The thresholds and awards towards the cost of the County Ticket are as follows:

  • Gross income less than £25,000
    Up to £500
  • Gross income £25,001 - £35,000
    Up to £400
  • Gross income £35,001 - £50,000
    Up to £300

You may wish to look into the cost of tickets bought directly from the bus operators as this may be more cost effective. If you choose to purchase directly from the bus operators, the 16-19 Bursary can still help however the award may be less than those stated above and you  need to keep and show your tickets as evidence of purchase to Student Support throughout the year.

The 16-19 Bursary can also help with other course related compulsory costs where the gross household income is £35,000 or less. The upper income threshold listed above is solely for help towards bus travel.
