Agriculture Training Block
A £4 million building project has just been announced to enable continued capital development at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s agricultural training facility in Cannington.
The initial plans include a new 24 bed accommodation block for residential students, as well as new teaching facilities to include classrooms, seminar rooms, data rooms and a food technology laboratory, which will enable increased activity in the food and drink sector.
The new accommodation block has been designed to achieve an excellent BREEAM rating that reflects the environmental impact of any new building. This has been achieved through a wide range of measures including high levels of insulation, high efficiency boilers and a large solar photovoltaic array.
The building will provide 24 bedrooms, including one designed to meet the needs of a wheelchair user, all of which will have en-suite facilities, a 4 foot bed and a desk and storage space. In addition, the building provides a common room on each floor that will provide basic catering facilities and a soft seating area, a boot changing room, a small laundrette and a baggage storage room. Externally, there will be parking provided for 20 vehicles off the new access road to the building.
