Bridgwater & Taunton College has recently made substantial investment in new state-of-the-art engineering facilities based in the Energy Skills Centre, which was opened in January 2011.
Students can take full advantage of the fully stocked and dedicated, machining, welding & fabrication workshops, and laboratories equipped with the latest Robotic, CAD/CAM, CNC, Materials, Pneumatic/Hydraulics, Programmable Logic Control, Electronics and Process Control Technology give them unrivalled access to the latest industry standard training and education.
The Engineering Department delivers a wide range of educational and training programmes for full-time, part-time and employer-sponsored students up to and including degree level. It supports a substantial curriculum and a large apprenticeship programme.
Working with Employers
We work directly with over 50 employers, including Rolls-Royce, Numatic, EDF Energy, QuEST and Refresco Gerber, focusing on adding value through responsive training programmes. We are continually adapting and adding to our portfolio in order to meet strong and growing employer demand. The section also delivers a substantial amount of contract commercial work for employers and other training organisations.
We have particular expertise in operations and maintenance, manufacturing, CAD, CNC, Welding and Fabrication, Instrumentation & Control, Electrical & Electronics.
Programmes include: Foundation, Advanced and Higher Engineering Apprenticeships, L2 NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations, the new Engineering Diploma at 14-16, BTEC National Certificates and Diplomas in Manufacturing, Mechanical and Operations & Maintenance, C&G L3 qualifications in Welding and Fabrication, Maintenance and Production, HNC’s in Operations and Manufacturing, Foundation Degrees in Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering.
