Art, Design & Media
The Arts & Media Centre at both our Bridgwater and Taunton Centres is the hub for many specialist art, design and media activities which give students a full range of opportunities to learn, experience and practise creative disciplines.
Photography and Media Production occupy the ground floor where students are taught in a bespoke television studio, media production workroom, a range of editing suites with software of industry professional standards, visual and sound equipment, photographic studio with infinity cove, large darkroom for standard, medium and large format film processing and print finishing rooms and digital arts suite.
Upstairs there are lecture rooms for theoretical subjects such as History of Art, Film and Media Studies, with facilities for displays and screenings. Practical studios include Graphic Design with Apple Mac technologies and the Fashion & Textiles Centre is equipped with domestic and industrial sewing equipment. An exhibition area enables students and visitors to see work in progress and completed, and also provides space for individual practical and academic research in an informal environment.
Other Art & Design activities take place in large studios with fantastic natural light to support Life Drawing, Fine Art Painting and 3D, as well as a highly active print space. Digital Arts and Animation are taught in contemporary and traditional methods to give students a well-rounded experience and understanding of this popular and specialist niche. Evening classes also include Jewellery and Painting and Drawing short courses to give people the opportunity to learn or revive skills.
Many regard the Arts House at our Taunton Centre as a local landmark. Eye catching from inside and out, it houses fantastic facilities that give creatives in a range of fields including art, graphic design, textiles and media every opportunity to explore their talents.
