Students check out new forms of Animal Care - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Animal Management students had the opportunity to observe a canine hydrotherapy unit at work today as part of their studies and preparation for their career paths.

Dogs at Donyatt is a newly established, purpose built, canine hydrotherapy facility in Donyatt, Somerset, devoted to canine rehabilitation, health and fitness. Hydrotherapy uses water to relieve pain or discomfort and promote wellbeing for dogs.

The centre is owned by the Williams family and run by Fiona Williams, a Registered Canine Hydrotherapist who carries out all treatments.  They opened in 2014, after Fiona had already gained extensive experience in canine hydrotherapy in centres across the UK.

They can treat a range of conditions following a referral by the patient’s vet surgeon.

Students got to see all the facilities and equipment required in such a centre and watch a typical therapy session being carried out on Monty the 4 year-old West Highland White Terrier. As well as observing, they gained valuable advice and information on this up and coming area of the animal care industry.

Many thanks go to Fiona and her team as well as Monty and his owners!
